Any Captain or Warchief who receives a Death Threat will immediately gain Power and acquire a gang of followers to try and thwart you. This can makes things harder for you, but a 40% increased chance of an Epic Rune dropping is a sizable payoff. Exploiting a Captain or Warchief's vulnerability greatly increases the odds of getting an Epic Rune related to that vulnerability.Note that Death Threats can't be unlocked until later in the game so this tactic won't always work for those looking to get good runes early in the game.
If you complete the Mighty Doom Achievement/Trophy, chances are you'll harvest plenty of Epic Runes.For example, if a Captain is vulnerable to Stealth kills and you kill the Captain via a Stealth kill, there's a high chance of an Epic Dagger Rune being dropped.
